E-Learning: the 5 golden rules for harmoniously combining effectiveness and beauty

To realise a successful eLearning project, you need to invest in its design and beauty. The design is not only aesthetic, it’s an emotional connection. Good design demonstrates the effort invested in creating a better learning experience. What are the golden rules for creating a pleasant, effective and aesthetically evolved eLearning path?

  1. Provide essential information: simplicity is essential, beautiful and easy to understand. An important aspect is to respect the cognitive load theory, according to which the amount of information, during the learning process, must be minimal, especially when you have new information.
  2. Communicate with a non-verbal language: non-verbal communication is more effective than verbal. In web design the visual elements act as the non-verbal language, facilitating learning and retention of the concepts. In particular, attention is paid to typography (style, font, size) colours, the texture of the elements, icons, symbols, images, animations and videos.
  3. Create familiarity: the addition of familiar elements facilitates identification. Users want courses that are intuitive and work properly. It is necessary to sue simple and easy to read fonts in a usable and engaging interface.
  4. Do not try the patience of users: numerous clicks to access a training course or the completion of long questionnaires distract users.
  5. Provide variety: it can stimulate the different intelligences of the users, alternate types of content and maintain awareness.
